All of these photographs were taken by me as my family and I explore the Northwoods and beyond. My husband and I in particular love to travel and explore our new home. We hike as often as we can, and I’m always amazed at the sights I find. The beauty of the land inspires me to write. In my first novel, I describe the old world forests, and I take my inspiration from the Ottawa National Forest. We live only ten miles from the Black River, and we hike there often. The hemlocks tower above us and the ground sinks down with every step we take, centuries of humus underneath our feet.
In my second and third novels, I take the reader to the bayous of Louisiana, and of course, to New Orleans (my favorite place to visit). As a historical writer, it’s difficult to step back and see things in another time period. We have to take certain liberties because sometimes the records aren’t there. We have to rely on experts in the field to guide our minds, and hopefully we can paint an accurate picture for the reader. I have yet to explore the Antilles, but someday, I will go there…
