NOW AVAILABLE - SPIRIT OF THE NORTHWOODS
Written during NaNoWriMo 2014, my first Young Adult mystery/suspense novel is set in my glorious, rugged home in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This book is dedicated to my 17 year old autistic son Logan whose doppelganger is one of the main characters of this book. All proceeds from this novel will go to charities that benefit autism research.
An Ojibwa man found dead…the mysterious legend of the Paulding Lights…and a secret that will rock the small mining communities of the Upper Peninsula for years to come.
Since moving the Upper Peninsula three months ago, Shannon Colfax and her autistic twin brother Shane have had a difficult time settling into their new school. When Shannon gets into a fight with popular football jock Brent Duray for bullying Shane, she finds an unlikely savior – and new love - in the Sheriff’s son, Cody Williams. But Brent’s entourage doesn’t like Cody’s new girlfriend, and to get back at them, the group dares Shannon and Cody to take the Paulding Light Challenge on Halloween night: if they spend a whole night in the haunted woods, Duray promises to leave Shane alone.
Shannon and Cody take the dare, ready to put Duray in his place and prove once and for all that the local legend is a myth. However, upon straying off the path, they discover a dead Ojibwa man in the Ottawa National Forest - and the real truth of the Paulding Lights. Their curiosity piqued, Shannon and Cody gather as much proof as they can to share with his father.
Their snooping sets off a whirlwind of panic, and they find themselves embroiled in dangerous game of cat and mouse with the “ghosts” of the forest. When Shane’s savant computer skills lead them to an even bigger conspiracy that will rock the region for years to come, the three friends are kidnapped. Can the Spirits of the Northwoods help guide them safely home so they can finally reveal the truth?

Very suspenseful. June 27, 2016
What a great book! I was interested in this book due to the many connections I have with it. It takes place in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan, where I currently live. It also connects to one of the biggest legends in our area, the Paulding Light. Very suspenseful and hard to put down once you start it. I also loved that one of the main characters is autistic, and the story line is very realistic. I highly recommend reading this, as it will keep you in suspense throughout the entire book. Fantastic read.
